Fraud Targeting Residents of the Western District of Louisiana

Wednesday, November 27, 2024

The Office of the Clerk of Court is aware of a scam targeting residents within the Western District of Louisiana to make payments to void warrants for arrest. Scammers have been reported to pose as government officials, court staff, or law enforcement officers and to use numerous variations of claims of missed jury duty and/or other legal issues to include false claims of unresolved issues related to PPP loans requiring the payment of fees to avoid arrest. These scammers will instruct victims to make certain payments using prepaid cards, wire transfers, or payments at bitcoin kiosks to void warrants and prevent arrest. The Office of the Clerk of Court encourages residents to avoid engaging unsolicited callers requesting personal information or payments and advises residents to not provide any personally identifiable information or financial details. The legitimacy of these claims can be made by contacting local law enforcement agencies.
